Another day among the Giants.

Todays challenge was to "Hike the trail of the Sequoias". We collected a trail map from the Giant Forest museum and asked about dangers such as bears and rattle snakes. We were told that the bears have probably moved lower down ready to hibernate and rattle snakes are relatively rare at this altitude. We were then shown pictures of other snakes that we may come across but are harmless!

The walk was about 6.5 miles long and took us through several scenic meadows and groves of giant sequoias. We saw deer, lots of chipmunks (too fast to photo) and heard several woodpeckers at work. We did want to see bears but didn't see any which made us disappointed and relieved at the same time.

Tharp was the first white man to visit the Giant Forest. He raised cattle in the summer on the rich grasses and lived in a cabin made from a hollowed out sequoia.

Tunnel log, quite strange driving through a tree.
