Giant Sequoias.

A big change in the weather today. We were woken in the middle of the night by thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Due to the rain it took us a while to venture out but by the time we did the rain had stopped. Behind our accommodation you can see snow on the hills.

We drove a short distance to the Giant Forest. The General Sherman tree is a giant sequoia and the largest tree (in volume) on earth. It is 274ft tall and has a circumference of 102ft and 2300 to 2700 years old. It's branches are the size of most trees.

After seeing General Sherman we walked the 2 mile Congress Trail among many other giant sequoias. On the trail we watched a woodpecker hard at work. We managed to get within a couple of feet of it, it didn't seem bothered and kept hammering away at the tree. Then a couple of deer crossed the trail in font of us.

We must have seen too many trees that we started seeing shapes. On top of this fallen sequoia we could see a lizards head and from the other side a dinosaurs head.

Next the plan was to visit Kings Canyon Nationl Park but unfortunately due to fires much of it has been closed since late July. Kings Canyon somewhere in the distance.
